The Cimarron Valley Railroad (reporting mark CVR) is a Class III short-line freight railroad operating about 254 miles of track through parts of Kansas, Oklahoma, and Colorado , headquartered in Satanta, Kansas . It was formed in 1996 when it acquired former Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway lines and runs southwest from Dodge City, Kansas, to Satanta , where the route splits with one branch continuing to Boise City, Oklahoma , and another to Springfield, Colorado . The railroad primarily hauls agricultural commodities such as wheat, corn, milo, and related products, along with fertilizer, chemicals, sand, and other goods, serving rural shippers and interchanging with BNSF Railway at Dodge City. Over the years it has received state and federal grants for locomotive and infrastructure upgrades to enhance service and efficiency. In 2020 , CVR was purchased by Jaguar Transport Holdings , reflecting continued investment in the line’s operations and regional freight capacity.
