The Southwestern Railroad (reporting mark SW) is a Class III short-line freight railroad based in Deming, New Mexico , that has operated since 1990 over former Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway (Santa Fe) trackage in southwestern New Mexico. It serves communities such as Deming, Whitewater, Tyrone, and Chino , hauling key commodities including copper and related materials, limestone, and chemicals , largely tied to local mining and industrial customers. The railroad interchanges with BNSF Railway and Union Pacific and provides freight service, railcar storage, and support to regional shippers. Originally consisting of multiple disconnected divisions, the Southwestern Railroad’s primary remaining operation is its Whitewater Division in New Mexico. In November 2020 , the line was acquired by Jaguar Transport Holdings , which continues to operate and develop the railroad within its network of short lines.
