The Missouri Eastern Railroad (reporting mark MER) is a Class III short-line freight railroad in Missouri that began operations on March 1, 2022 as a subsidiary of Jaguar Transport Holdings . It operates roughly 53–60 miles of former Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad line in the St. Louis metropolitan area , running from near Union through Vigus to Overland , where it interchanges with the Terminal Railroad Association of St. Louis . MER’s trackage includes rights over Union Pacific-owned sections and combines purchased and leased segments of the historic route. The railroad serves a diversified group of customers—such as producers of plastics, paper products, fly ash, building materials, and food products—and offers car storage, repair, and transload services.
