The Bloomer Line is a short line railroad that operates in Ford, Mclean and Livingston counties. The Bloomer Line services eight Alliance Grain elevators by transporting corn, soybeans and wheat to Gibson City, Illinois. Once there, the rail cars are turned over to the Norfolk & Southern (NS), Canadian National (CN), or the Toldedo, Peoria & Western (TP&W), at the Chatsworth interchange for delivery to buyers. The NS can handle 75 standard cars and the CN can handle 100. The Bloomer Line also delivers raw plastic to a drainage tile company in Chatsworth, as well as, several fertilizer plants. Potash is delivered to the Colfax Potash Center in the amount of roughly 70 cars. Heritage FS in Charlotte and Evergreen FS in Anchor receive DAP and Potash brought by the Bloomer Line. Traveling down the 50 miles of Bloomer track are 4 locomotives, three general purpose 10 and one general purpose 9 engines are use to tow the trains. One smaller locomotive is used at the Middle elevator to move lighter loads. These four locomotives generate roughly 1800 horsepower a piece. Click here to learn more about our mobile app
