Beginning in the early 1990s, Class I railroads adopted a form of passive Radio-Frequency Identification, Automatic Equipment Identification (AEI), as a way to more effectively track railcars. At that time, every railcar in North America was equipped with two AEI tags, and since 2005, we discovered rail shippers were not taking advantage of this technology and partnered with the leading provider of rail transportation software to shippers in North America, Bourque Logistics, to address this need. This partnership has led Industrial Networks to become the largest provider of AEI readers to shippers in North America.
