Mostly luck. After the Salomon Brothers Training Program (read “Liar’s Poker”) I was offered analyst-assistant positions in a variety of industries. As a history major, I was intrigued by the rail industry’s rich past, and by the need to have an understanding of the entire economy, here and globally, because that’s what this group touches. Then, once in, while I didn’t drink the foam, I was a committed convert.
